My Story

My name is Edith and I have worked in the health care field for many of my working years. After needing a change of direction in my work life a few years ago, I learned about Doulas and their important role in the community by supporting new moms and their families.

This seemed like a perfect direction to head into as I remember my husband returning back to work a few days after my coming home from the hospital with our newborn. I felt totally lost and inadequate even though I had read numerous books on the subject beforehand. What I do remember most is my 2 neighbor ladies, both single and childless, coming over and trying to console me and my crying son and discussing what options to try. We threw out ideas and although I don't remember the outcome, I still remember the sense of relief and comfort to know I had their emotional support when I was unsure of myself. Although I can't remember their names, I will never forget these two kind women who came to my rescue and gave their time to help in any way they could.

As a trained Doula in birth and postpartum, I work specifically with postpartum moms who are in similar situations. A lot of new moms have worked their whole lives in a career not connected to newborn care. Between books, friends and family, there is a lot of information which can be confusing. It seems overwhelming at the time, but it gives you a chance to think about your options and by process of elimination make the best choice possible. As a doula I help provide up-to-date evidence based information or new ideas that can support your decisions towards your new born to help provide the best care possible for you and your family.
A happy baby means a happy family.
